Insight
Get to know the wine
The Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill 2002 by Pol Roger is made from a blend predominantly of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (the percentages jealously guarded by the Maison) from the best Grand Crus of Champagne. Separate vinification by variety in temperature-controlled stainless steel, with double debourbage. Full malolactic fermentation.
Second fermentation in bottle in Pol Roger's deepest cellars (33 m underground). Manual remuage — extremely rare nowadays. Ageing on the lees for ~10 years. 2002 in Champagne was the vintage of the decade.
The Sir Winston Churchill 2002 has developed a textbook complexity: honey, toast, dried and candied fruit. To be drunk now with ample aeration, at its best through 2035.
Sommelier's note
“"Luminous golden yellow with a fine, persistent perlage. Freshly pressed citrus evolving into toasted brioche, raisins and candied fruit. Powerful, structured and rich with honeyed flavours balanced by a refreshing acidity. Creamy texture and full body. Wine Enthusiast: 98 points — 'possibly the greatest Winston Churchill ever.' To be drunk now, at its best through 2035+."”
