Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva 2004
Romano Dal Forno embodies obsessive perfection in Amarone: a former pupil of Quintarelli, he created a highly personal style in the Val d'Illasi — absolute density and concentration, cutting-edge technology in the service of terroir. The Vigneto Monte Lodoletta is one of the most celebrated single vineyards in Italy. The 2004, a vintage of great elegance and classic structure, produced an Amarone of extraordinary complexity. Romano Dal Forno's Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva 2004 is born from the Vigneto Monte Lodoletta with the same scrupulous production philosophy as the 2006: Corvina 60%, Rondinella 20%, Croatina 10%, Oseleta 10%, on alluvial soil at ~300 m a.s.l.
Drying for 3 months with controlled ventilation, fermentation in steel at controlled temperature for ~15 days, then final maceration. Entry into new barriques for 24 months with slow residual fermentation, then at least 36 months of bottle ageing before release.
The 2004 in Valpolicella was a vintage of great elegance and classic ripening — often preferred by purists over warm vintages for its better acidity.
The Dal Forno 2004 expresses an aromatic complexity still in full evolution: plum, cocoa, truffle and balsamic notes open progressively in the glass. AG 98 score, among the highest ever awarded to an Amarone.
Sommelier's note
“"Liquorice and cocoa blend with fruity notes of ripe plum and cherry. A powerful and concentrated profile, with velvety tannins and a finish of exceptional persistence. Aromas of truffle, tobacco and leather emerge with oxygenation. Antonio Galloni (Vinous): 98 points — 'one of the great Amarones of the decade.' To drink now with 3 hours of decanting, or keep until 2040+."”
