Barbaresco Crichet Paje 2006
The Crichet Paje is Roagna's supreme expression and one of the rarest and most legendary Barbaresco in Italy: it is born from just 0.52 hectares in the upper part of the Paje cru, on the soils with the highest concentration of active limestone in the entire amphitheatre. Produced on average twice every ten years, it leaves the winery around 10 years after the vintage. The 2006 — a benchmark vintage for Barbaresco — spent around 8 years in neutral oak casks before bottling.

Get to know the wine
Roagna's Barbaresco Crichet Paje 2006 is born from a micro-parcel of 0.52 ha in the highest part of the Paje, with vines over 60 years old, on white calcareous marls with a very high concentration of active limestone — the most unique soil of the entire cru. Manual harvest in October at physiological ripeness.
Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in conical oak vats, submerged-cap maceration of 80-90 days. For vintages up to 2010: ageing of around 8 years in large neutral oak casks, bottling without filtration or fining.
The 2006 is considered one of the greatest vintages for Barbaresco. The profile is ethereal and of absolute purity: raspberry, blackberry and fresh red fruit emerge intact after years of élevage, alongside rose, sweet spices and an unmistakable calcareous minerality.
On the palate the structure is deep yet of rare grace — more porcelain than iron, more Burgundy than Piedmont. To be cellared until 2030 and beyond.
Sommelier's note
“Fresh raspberry, blackberry, rose water — clear, pure fruit, unscathed by eight years of élevage. Extraordinary ethereal complexity, porcelain and delicacy. On the palate it is of an almost immaterial grace, with the finest silken tannins and an endless finish. Berry Bros. & Rudd: 'drop-dead gorgeous, rose-water pure, sensational'. One of the supreme expressions of Nebbiolo of all.”
