Barolo Riserva Monfortino 2019
The Monfortino 2019 is the first vintage produced after three years of silence — Roberto Conterno had declassified the 2016, 2017 and 2018, considering them not up to standard. It is also the first version to incorporate grapes from the new Arione cru (acquired in 2015), which joins the historic Cascina Francia bringing further finesse and elegance. Robert Parker awarded 100 points: the highest rating in the history of Monfortino.

Get to know the wine
The Barolo Riserva Monfortino 2019 by Giacomo Conterno represents a historic vintage: produced after
three declassified vintages, it marks the return of one of Italy's most legendary wines.
For the first time, alongside the historic Cascina Francia, the Arione cru enters the blend, contributing to
broaden the wine's profile with further finesse and elegance. The 2019 vintage, balanced and classic,
ensured optimal ripening of the Nebbiolo, preserving freshness and tension.
The vinification remains faithful to tradition: long macerations and ageing of over seven years in
large casks, without forcing. The result is a wine of extraordinary depth.
On the nose violet, rose, dark cherry and small fruits emerge, followed by liquorice, spices and a marked
mineral imprint. On the palate it is monumental yet precise, with silky tannins, incisive acidity and an
elegant progression.
The finish is persistent and complex. Still very young, it will reach its peak in the coming decades.
Sommelier's note
“"The Monfortino 2019 is a wine of magnetic depth: violet, rose petals, dark cherry, ripe raspberry, blackcurrant, liquorice, spices and ferrous minerality layer into an aristocratic bouquet in continuous evolution. On the palate it is majestic — dense, silky tannins, incisive freshness, an endless finish with floral and savoury returns. It is still very young: it will give its best between 2030 and 2050. Robert Parker: 100 points."”
