Bolgheri Sassicaia 2016
The Sassicaia 2016 is the other face of perfection: rated 100/100 by Robert Parker — the third time in the history of Sassicaia after the legendary 1985 and the extraordinary 2015. Perhaps even better than the 2015 for depth and tannic precision. Harvest prolonged into the first ten days of October, with nocturnal sea breezes that accentuated the aromas and preserved the freshness. An absolute masterpiece.

Insight
Get to know the wine
The Bolgheri Sassicaia 2016 by Tenuta San Guido is born from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc,
with the same production rigour as the 2015. Spontaneous fermentation in steel at 28-30 degrees without
selected external yeasts, maceration 13-15 days with pump-overs and délestages to favour
aromatic extraction over tannic extraction. Malolactic completed in steel at the end of November.
Ageing 24 months in French oak barriques (1/3 new), masses kept separate by vineyard until
the final blending before bottling.
The 2016 is unanimously considered superior to the already extraordinary 2015: a hot and dry summer,
a late and homogeneous harvest into October, nocturnal sea breezes that preserved acidity and
aromas. Tannins of absolute precision, ageing potential of decades. To keep until at least
2026.
Sommelier's note
“"Intense ruby. Sour cherries, blueberries and blackcurrant that blend with bitter orange, chocolate, graphite and Mediterranean scrub. Balanced, full and elegant with soft, polished tannins of great precision. Very long and persistent finish. RP 100 — even more structured than the 2015. Drink from 2026, at its best 2030-2050."”
