Chambertin Grand Cru 2012
The Chambertin of Domaine Trapet is one of the great benchmark Chambertins: 1.9 hectares across 3 parcels — the oldest planted in 1919 — on gravelly-marl soil with a limestone base. Biodynamic since 1997, Jean-Louis Trapet vinifies with 90% whole cluster, minimal new oak and very little sulphur. The 2012, with only 18 hl/ha of production, is considered the best Chambertin ever produced by the domaine. John Gilman: 98+ points.

Insight
Get to know the wine
The Chambertin Grand Cru 2012 of Domaine Trapet is born from 1.9 hectares across three distinct parcels, with the
oldest parcel planted in 1919. Exceptionally low yield: only 18 hl/ha, against a normal
average well above. Vinification with 90% whole cluster — vendange entière — spontaneous
fermentation in open vats, gentle extraction with light bâtonnage at the start and only pump-overs afterwards.
Ageing in French barriques with a minimal percentage of new oak, very little sulphur as per
the Trapet philosophy.
The profile is classic and cerebral: the energy of the 2012 manifests in a tense, animated wine that 'can barely
contain its own energy and shines in the mouth' (Neal Martin). Notes of blackcurrant, raspberry,
undergrowth, meat, fresh herbs and saline minerality define a bouquet of great depth.
Refined, precise, with a finish of endless length. Drink from 2025, very high potential until
2060 and beyond.
Sommelier's note
“"Intense bouquet: blackcurrant, raspberry leaf, undergrowth, minerals and orange peel — defined and focused. On the palate it is animated and tense, with an almost contained energy that pulses and grows towards a finish of red cherry and citrus peel, with the minerality that defines the aftertaste. A cerebral and sophisticated Chambertin, for scholars rather than for hedonists. John Gilman (View from the Cellar): 98+ points — drink from 2025 until 2075+." ”
