Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016
Charmes-Chambertin is the largest of the nine Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin: 30.8 hectares on limestone-clay soil that produce a Pinot Noir of great charm and accessibility. In this cru Mounir Saouma seeks the 'charm' — sweetness, fruit, spice, chocolate — favouring an attractive and approachable profile. The 2016 is one of the greatest vintages of the last decades for the whole of Burgundy.

The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2016 by Lucien Le Moine is a cuvée selected after the
fermentation and aged in the cellar at Beaune on fine lees following the maison's 'hands off' philosophy. Mounir
Saouma seeks in Charmes-Chambertin its most seductive character: natural sweetness of the fruit,
spice and chocolate — an approachability that sets it apart from the other, more austere Grands Crus of Gevrey.
The 2016 expresses a dark, concentrated profile: medicinal cherry, cocoa and spice in a bouquet that with
time will open up in all its complexity. On the palate the structure is substantial but the tannins are already well
polished. Ready to open from 2024 with decanting, at its best between 2027 and 2040.
Sommelier's note
“"Medicinal black cherry and bitter chocolate with a spicy element. Dense, concentrated and savoury with Grand Cru depth and subtle sweetness. Surprisingly suave tannins, a crescendo, spicy finish. Vinous: 'grand cru depth of texture and subtle sweetness — still quite primary.' Drink from 2024, at its best 2027-2040."”
