Vega Sicilia Unico 2010
Vega Sicilia Unico is the only Spanish wine in the Liv-ex 1000 index and one of the world's great collector wines. It is released after a minimum of 10 years between cask and bottle - probably the longest ageing in the world for a dry red wine. The 2010 is a powerful, concentrated vintage, delayed by May spring frosts but splendid in its final quality. Parker 97 · Pein 98.

Insight
Get to know the wine
Vega Sicilia Unico 2010 comes from 40 of the estate's 210 planted hectares, from vines of varying ages, across 57 parcels with 19 different soil types along the Duero river. Blend: Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) 94% and Cabernet Sauvignon 6%.
Fermentation in open oak vats, then an elaborate multi-stage ageing: 22 months in wooden vats, 22 months in new 225-litre French and American oak barriques, 28 months in used barriques, 24 months in large 22,000-litre vats, and finally 3 years of rest in bottle before release.
The 2010 is marked by a powerful, concentrated profile, with notes of macerated fruit, eucalyptus and menthol typical of the terroir. On the palate it is opulent but not aggressive, with velvety tannins and an extraordinary aromatic persistence.
A wine that gains nuance and complexity over time - to be drunk now with generous decanting, at the latest between 2025 and 2045.
Sommelier's note
“Sour cherry, Spanish cedar, nutmeg, lemon zest, balsamic and liquorice over a silky, polished palate with very fine, tightly knit tannins. Great structure, depth and endless length. James Suckling: 'silky and polished, goes on for minutes, still needs time.' Ready after 2025, with potential through 2045 and beyond.”
