Insight
Get to know the wine
Jacques Selosse's Initial is born from 100% Chardonnay from Avize, Cramant and Oger across three successive vintages. Separate fermentation by parcel in used Burgundian barriques, with indigenous yeasts and bâtonnage.
Naturally completed malolactic. Ageing on the lees for 3 years. Compared to the Substance (Solera since 1986) and the V.O. (three Grand Crus in deep Solera), the Initial is the 'freshest' and most accessible version: three recent vintages across three different terroirs.
Sommelier's note
“"Deep yellow tending towards gold with a fine and persistent bubble. Clarified butter, toasted almonds, chestnut honey, pastry and an integrated oxidative note. A very full and imposing sip: opulent matter balanced by savouriness and freshness. The complexity of a great still white with bubbles."”
