About Us
Our story
Louis Roederer is one of the most prestigious Champagne houses, founded in 1776 in Reims. It is one of the very few great houses still independent and family-run, led today by Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh generation.
The house is celebrated for Cristal, created in 1876 for Tsar Alexander II of Russia in a clear crystal bottle. Today Cristal is regarded as one of the greatest Champagnes in the world, a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards.
Roederer owns 240 hectares of its own vineyards (70% of its needs), an exceptionally high proportion for a great house. Viticulture is largely biodynamic, under the guidance of chef de cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon.
