Chateau Cheval Blanc 2012
Chateau Cheval Blanc is one of the two wines at the absolute summit of Saint-Emilion and one of the most unique and inimitable in Bordeaux: it is the only one among the great Chateaux to make Cabernet Franc (52%) the dominant variety. It sits on the border between Saint-Emilion and Pomerol - 'the white horse that gallops on light and heavy soil' at the same time. The 2012 is among the great Cheval Blanc vintages: a wine of great silky concentration and seductive aromas. JS 97 - RP 96.

Insight
Get to know the wine
Chateau Cheval Blanc 2012 comes from the domaine's 39 hectares on soils combining gravel, clay and sand.
Exceptional blend: Cabernet Franc 52%, Merlot 43%, Cabernet Sauvignon 5%. Vinification in 52 concrete vats (capacity 20-110 hl) - concrete has been used since 1966 for optimal management of the cap during fermentation.
No cold maceration, yeasts selected from the estate's own vineyard, fermentation at low temperatures to preserve aromas and tannin.
Ageing 16-18 months in 100% new French oak barriques. The 2012 in Saint-Emilion was a vintage of great finesse - less opulent than the 2010 but of extraordinary tannic precision.
The Cheval Blanc 2012 expresses the quintessence of the Chateau's style: silky Cabernet Franc, seductive fruit, a texture impossible to forget. Still developing.
Sommelier's note
“"Intense ruby. Red fruit of great charm - blueberries, cherries, violets - over a spicy and floral register unique in the world. Velvety tannins of absolute silk. Full-bodied but never heavy, a fluidity impossible to find elsewhere. A very long finish with the persistence of ripe fruit. The Cabernet Franc of Saint-Emilion at its best. To be drunk now, at its best 2028-2050."”
