Marche is a region of hills running down from the Apennines to the Adriatic. Its signature grape is Verdicchio, which in the Castelli di Jesi and Matelica gives savoury, long-lived whites; among the reds stand out Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno, based on Montepulciano, alongside native grapes such as Lacrima di Morro d'Alba and Pecorino.
