About Us
Our story
Château Ausone takes its name from the Roman poet Ausonius and stands on a natural amphitheatre of limestone in the heart of Saint-Émilion. It is one of the very few Premier Grand Cru Classé A, the highest rank in the Saint-Émilion classification.
With just 7 hectares of vineyard, planted to Cabernet Franc and Merlot on limestone and clay soils, Ausone produces minuscule quantities of wine of exceptional purity and minerality. The cellars are carved into the limestone rock beneath the château, at a naturally constant temperature.
Under the guidance of Alain Vauthier, Ausone has reached extraordinary heights of quality, producing wines of rare elegance and longevity.
