The story of Château d’Yquem
Château d'Yquem is the absolute pinnacle of the world's sweet wines, the only Premier Cru Supérieur in the 1855 classification. Located in the commune of Sauternes, on a hill overlooking the valley of the Ciron, the château produces a golden nectar of unequalled complexity and richness.
Production is based on botrytis cinerea (noble rot), which naturally concentrates the sugars in the Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The harvest takes place in successive passes, berry by berry, and average production is just one glass per vine.
Owned by LVMH since 1999, Château d'Yquem produces wines capable of ageing for over a century. Vintages such as 1811, 1847 and 1921 are still drinkable and extraordinary today.
