The Winery
Gaja
The most famous winery in Italy, founded in Barbaresco in 1859. Angelo Gaja revolutionised Italian wine, bringing it to the pinnacle of the world stage.

About Us
Our story
Gaja is synonymous with Italian winemaking excellence the world over. Founded in 1859 in Barbaresco, in the Piedmontese Langhe, the winery was transformed by Angelo Gaja – the "King of Barbaresco" – into one of the most prestigious wine estates on the global stage.
Angelo Gaja introduced revolutionary innovations: high-density planting, the use of the French barrique, and the bold decision to bottle crus such as Sorì San Lorenzo, Sorì Tildìn and Costa Russi as Langhe Nebbiolo rather than Barbaresco DOCG. The estate also produces in Bolgheri (Ca'Marcanda) and in Montalcino (Pieve Santa Restituta).
Today Gaia Gaja leads the estate with the same vision as her father, keeping alive the tradition of innovation that made the Gaja name legendary.
