Purcari is a village in the Ștefan Vodă district, on the hills running down to the Nistru. Its wine history began in 1827, when the tsar granted it the status of a specialised winery; Negru de Purcari, from Cabernet Sauvignon, Saperavi and Rara Neagră, became the red of the Russian imperial court and of the English court.
