Chambertin e Gevrey-Chambertin
The Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin on Vinoly: Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Charmes-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin, from Domaine Trapet, Ponsot and others. The most powerful Pinot Noir of the Côte de Nuits, Napoleon's wine.
Nine Grands Crus
Gevrey-Chambertin is the Burgundy village with the most Grands Crus: Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, the two sovereigns, surrounded by Charmes, Mazoyères, Griotte, Chapelle, Latricières, Mazis and Ruchottes, which may add Chambertin to their name. East-facing limestone and marl soils, wines of structure, tannin and a longevity rare for Pinot Noir.
The style
Chambertin is the most virile of Burgundy's Grands Crus: black cherry, liquorice, forest floor, a tannic weave that asks for ten years and holds forty. Griotte and Chapelle are more delicate and floral, Charmes the most approachable.
How to drink it
At 16-17 °C, in a wide glass. Pairings: feathered game, pigeon, lamb, mushrooms, washed-rind cheeses such as Époisses.
