Clos de la Roche
Clos de la Roche Grand Cru on Vinoly, with the vertical of Domaine Ponsot, the largest owner of the cru. The most powerful Grand Cru of Morey-Saint-Denis, Pinot Noir of rock and depth, for twenty years of cellaring.
The cru
Almost 17 hectares above the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, between Gevrey and Chambolle: thin soils over outcropping limestone (hence the name), wines that join the power of Gevrey to the finesse of Chambolle. Domaine Ponsot owns over three hectares and makes the Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, among Burgundy's most celebrated reds.
The Ponsot style
Late harvests, no new oak, no sulphur during vinification: pure, severe wines when young, opening after ten years on red fruit, spice and earth. The 2000s vintages are now in their best window.
